The market is flooded with supplements that claim to make you look and feel years younger. Much of it is hyped nonsense. However, ingestible hydrolyzed collagen is starting to get people’s attention. So, is this potential age defying supplement for real or just more nonsense?

It seems like every time we turn around there’s another supplement on the market that claims to make you look and feel years younger. While the overwhelming majority of these supplements have come and gone over the years, there is one that is starting to get the attention of folks looking to turn back the hands of time and maybe take a few years off the clock.

So are collagen supplements just another flash in the pan supplements that will come and go by the waste side, just like the rest, or not?

The Effect Collagen Has on Our Bodies

Before we dive into the benefits collagen has on our bodies, here’s a brief explanation of what collagen supplements are…

To put it in simple terms, the collagen taken in supplement form is made up of many different types amino acids. This collagen is derived from the bones and tissues of animals. Some of the most popular collagen products are derived from grass fed cows.

Sounds kinda weird, right?

Well, it’s not really – considering the fact the bowl of your grandma’s delicious beef bone soup or chicken soup are high in collagen content collagen (it’s gelatin after it is cooked). The collagen in the bones and skin of animals is what makes chicken or beef broth soup so creamy as well as tasty and healthy!

You’d may also be interested to know that – aside from water – our bodies are made up mainly collagen. Unfortunately, as our body ages, the amount of collagen within us slowly depletes causing various kinds of skin, hair and joint issues, such as wrinkles and sore knees… just to name a few effects of collagen depletion.

So naturally, in order to reduce the effects of aging, it would be great if we could replace some of that lost collagen that’s being depleted from our bodies.

And this is where collagen supplements come in!

Is Collagen The Miracle Protein?

When most people think of collagen, the first thing that comes to mind is skin – young, healthy skin in fact! While this is true, the proteins found in collagen are also present throughout our entire bodies, including our joints and hair follicles.

Did you know that your body’s collagen levels start to deplete starting as early as age 20? Yep, it’s true – that’s when the effects of aging slowly begin.

But maybe if we could replenish our depleting collagen levels with ingestible collagen, just maybe the signs of aging could start to diminish or at least slow down. Asian women have been ingesting collagen for years with the objective of younger looking, healthier skin. And of course, high-end cosmetic companies have been adding and promoting collagen in many of their expensive products for decades, but who knows if that has any real benefit.

So ingestible collagen may have many positive effects on the body, including:

  • Improving the overall health of your skin (the largest organ in your body!)
  • Makes skin softer and smoother, reduces wrinkles
  • Improves joint health and flexibility
  • Helps with digestion and promotes a healthy gut
  • Restores muscle tissue and strength
  • Increases metabolism
  • Increasing brain function
  • Reduces level of appetite
  • Improves and promotes sleep
  • Promotes healthy hair and restores growth

So collagen plays a pretty important part in our body’s ability to function normally. Without collagen, the body tends to slowly deteriorate and major effects of aging begin to set in. The bottom line is – the less collagen in your body the worse you look and feel.

It’s easy to see why collagen is being increasing looked at as a potential way to reduce the signs of aging.
