How To Take Care Of Your Teeth

Taking care of your teeth and mouth is crucial to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. After all, when your teeth are healthy eating food rich in nutrients that are essential to your body becomes easy. Additionally, poor oral hygiene can be a recipe for future medical problems such as heart disease and even stroke. Therefore, it is important that you learn how to take care of your teeth. Below are useful tips on how you can take care of your teeth.

Brush your teeth twice a day

One of the easiest things you can do to keep your teeth healthy is to brush them at least twice a day, and if you can three times a day. When brushing ensure you position your toothbrush at 45 degree angle. Meaning that the bristles of the brush come in contact with both the teeth and the gum. While brushing your teeth do not forget to brush the roof of your mouth and the surface of your tongue. These two are easily infected with bacteria that cause bad breath. Brushing twice a day is important as it helps break down the acids that are produced by the breakdown of food by bacteria in your mouth. If for any reason you are unable to brush at least twice a day, rinse your mouth with water after every meal.

Reduce your soda, coffee and alcohol consumption

While coffee, soda, and alcohol are arguably the most popular beverages today, they are bad for your teeth. These beverages contain high amounts of phosphorous, which causes calcium depletion. It is important to note that phosphorous is important to your teeth. However, too much of it is bad for your teeth. As stated, high amounts of phosphorous causes calcium depletion, which in turn causes tooth decay and other teeth problems. Instead of drinking any one of these beverages, why not take milk. The latter helps build your teeth’s enamel.

Visit a dentist

Not many people love going to the dentist; however, a trip to the dentist’s office for oral inspection can save you a lot of pain and money in medical bills. A dentist will be able to inspect your mouth and where applicable do a thorough cleaning of your mouth and teeth. The materials used by dentists are more efficient at removing harmful bacteria than the toothpaste you use at home. Therefore, since prevention is better than cure, be sure to request an appointment at and get your teeth inspected.

Eat food rich in calcium

As already stated calcium depletion is bad for your teeth, which means that calcium is important to the health of your teeth. That being said, it is important that you eat foods rich in calcium and vitamins. Some of the foods you should eat include broccoli, yogurt, and dairy products. Calcium and vitamins protect your teeth and gums from bleeding and cracking. Apart from calcium, iron, potassium zinc, copper and iodine are all important for your teeth. As such, it is important that you consume foods rich in these minerals as well.
