Here are the three major types of feet and the problems that they can cause without the right shoes. Flat Feet

Most people can determine if they have flat feet just by looking at the bottom of them. If the bottom of your foot is completely flat from toe to heel without an arch, you have flat feet. Another way to tell if you have flat feet is to do the footprint test. Using a colored liquid, cover the bottom of your feet, and step onto a sheet of paper. If they leave a print with no inward curve towards the middle, you have flat feet.

Normal or Natural Feet

The last type of feet are normal or natural feet. If you have natural feet, you have a slightly arched heel. When looking at a footprint, you will notice a slight inward curve toward the middle of the foot. Experts say that this curve should be no more than 3/4 inches.

When you have normal feet, buying shoes is as easy as it’s going to get. As long as you avoid picking shoes that are designed for specific foot types, you shouldn’t have any problems.

For example, you should avoid wearing shoes for flat feet. You may be able to enjoy shoes for people with slightly high arches while still getting plenty of comfort. In general, however, you want to look for shoes for natural runners.

The Arches in Your Feet

Overall, there are three main arches in your feet: medial longitudinal, lateral longitudinal and transverse. The medial longitudinal is the main arch that people refer to when they talk about the arches in their feet.

The lateral longitudinal arch is the one that runs alongside the medial longitudinal arch and the outer edge of the foot. It’s difficult to see in people who have flat feet but much more visible in people with high arches.

The transverse arch runs from the outside to the inside of the midfoot. It provides flexibility for the foot and support for its bones.
